At MD Financial Management, we believe that health and wellness are life’s most valuable assets. That’s why, in addition to our personal finance and investing stories, we aim to share interesting, practical information and tips to help you enjoy all of life’s possibilities.

Summer is the typical time to slow down, take vacation with family, reconnect with friends and soak up the sun – and as most Canadians know, it’s too short.

To help you make the most out of your summer plans, we’ve rounded up some ideas that will help you let loose and enjoy. We’ve also included some tips to help keep everyone safe, too, while having fun.

Write up your summer bucket list

No one has the time to do all 25 of these things, and frankly some of the items might not appeal to you. In the same way you might prioritize your goals and to-do list, you can simply circle your top five and forget the rest (for now).

Line up your vacation reads

Time magazine’s list of summer reading features both celebrated storytellers and debut authors. If you’re looking for some non-fiction, here are five books that Bill Gates thinks you should read this summer.

Give the kids some old-school fun

If you’re heading to a cottage, getting the kids off their screens (and maybe yourself off your own) can be a challenge. This list from Today’s Parent offers some inspiration for fun and nature-based activities.

Stay safe from insects – both indoors and outdoors

Summer is prime time for bedbugs. If you’re travelling this summer, here are some simple steps you can take to prevent them from ruining your vacation and possibly infesting your home. And if you’re worried about the growing threat of Lyme and tick-borne diseases, here are resources from TickEncounter (University of Rhode Island).

We hope you’ll get the chance to experience a change of pace over the summer, and the opportunity to rest and recharge. Enjoy and stay safe!
